— BEST NEW TEXAS BREWERY 2019, Hopalytics —

— BEST NEW BREWERY 2020, Austin Monthly ‘Best of ATX’ —

We started Roughhouse Brewing in January 2019 with a drive to do meaningful work that brought us closer to our land, ourselves, and our community. For us, Roughhouse represents the playful and loving familial aspect of our lives coupled with the old, rustic qualities of home and our history. For you, we hope it’s a comfortable spot to meet and share a beer and connect with each other.

Located on our family’s 50-acre ranch in San Marcos, our family-owned brewery serves refreshing American farmhouse beer that complements the Texas backdrop—dry, crisp and refreshing. At Roughhouse, our yeast-centric ales undergo 100-percent fermentation in American White Oak foeders (large wooden barrels) using our house, mixed culture, which includes yeast harvested from the Pasternak Ranch. The brewery’s water is supplied by our on-site well tapping into the Cow Creek section of the Trinity aquifer—providing some of the highest quality water in Central Texas.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Roughhouse Brewing.
We look forward to hosting you at the ranch or sharing a beer around town! We are dog-friendly and welcome all well-behaved dogs on a leash in our outdoor space and patio.

Take care,
Davy and Alex Pasternak

Founder and Head Brewer
Davy is co-founder and head brewer of Roughhouse Brewing. He appreciates the simple and hard-working way of life and strives to create beer that speaks to that lifestyle. Davy was born and raised in Carrollton, TX—not far from Alex—by two entrepreneurial parents who instilled in him a stick-to-itiveness spirit and knowledge-hungry nature. He graduated from The University of Texas with a mechanical engineering degree and worked in research and development before joining the Austin beer scene. Davy started with Blue Owl Brewing at its inception, helping to establish and grow the brewery, later becoming head brewer and manager of the barrel program.
Founder and Marketing / Events
Alex is co-founder and creative lead of Roughhouse Brewing. She is captivated by a weathered and woodsy aesthetic, be it in the Texas Hill Country, vintage store vibes, or beer. Alex was born and raised in Carrollton, TX. She graduated from The University of North Texas with a degree in journalism and brings her years of practice in writing, editing, designing and marketing to make Roughhouse the rustic beer brand (and barn) she always envisioned. She couldn’t be happier than to work alongside Davy and enjoys seeing their two skillsets merge to create their house away from home.
Owner and Cellarman
Andy is owner and cellarman of Roughhouse Brewing. Davy’s older brother and a mechanical engineering graduate from The University of Texas, he has grown accustomed to the production environment, and process control is his game. Andy is a fixer-upper by nature, funneling much of his extra energy into restoring his 1970 Chevy C-10 longbed, Ol’ Smokey. At Roughhouse, he lives among the foeders, catering to the whims of the Roughhouse mixed-culture. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch him cruising around town in Ol’ Smokey, dishing out kegs.
Graham is the brewery’s beloved artist. Using traditional techniques with brush, pen, and paper, he characterizes each beer and helps to better tell the Roughhouse story through his earthy and playful paintings. Graham graduated from the Hartford Art School with a BFA in illustration and works as a professional illustrator and fine artist. Alex discovered Graham’s art during his nine years spent living and working in Austin. He currently lives in Seattle, where he continues to create, explore, and travel.
